Travelling on Ethel

Posted on May 19, 2016March 28, 2018 by admin

Some of our clients along with support workers Genevieve and Alan have this week been on a barge this week. The boat they went on was called the Ethel.

Ethel was built in 1993 and is based in Sheffield. She’ a 57 foot long broad beam canal barge, and includes plenty of sleeping facilities as well as a galley where cooking is done. To be able to have a residential on a barge was an experience that the clients who took part won’t forget in a hurry.

Whilst travelling around on the barge they learnt about how locks work and went to Goole in East Yorkshire, where they went on another boat and had a look tour around the inland port.

It was an educational experience and a perfect way to spend  few days. Thankfully the weather held up too (well, mostly at least!). We’d like to thank the Ethel barge Trust for helping to plan the journey and being on hand in helping instruct our clients.
