Going Wild

Posted on September 22, 2016March 28, 2018 by admin

After The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust came to see us over the summer to help make a hedgehog house, we thought we would go over to see them in their neck of the woods near Holme Pierrepont.

We had a day full of wildlife spotting. We saw frogs, dragonflies, buzzards, green woodpeckers and house martins before they fly off to Africa. We also saw a teal duck (which is the UK’s smallest duck). We ate dinner near a grubenhäuser they have been building which is a pit house partly dug into the ground.

We partook in some pond dipping where we found mayfly nymph, pond skaters and diving beetles; then we twisted willow to make crowns…all before learning that rabbits eat their first green set of poo!

Many Thanks to Andrew Shaw and volunteer Annie for having us over.
