‘My Journey’ has been written by the parent of a client at Space Inclusive, and it’s well worth a read – especially for other parents and carers.
The book is easy to read, thought-provoking and very honest. It’s an account of the writer’s own ‘journey’, helping to raise her daughter who has multiple health and learning disabilities.
It shows how hard it can be to raise a child with such difficulties, especially when there aren’t many physical signs of a disability.
Perseverance in using, and at times fighting, the system to ensure the child receives the support they are entitled to, is a central theme in the book. It provides guidance to parents and carers in similar situations and especially stresses the valuable help and support that friends and family can often provide.
Being a parent or a carer can often be a thankless task, and is not always easy. However, this book isn’t just about sharing strategies and stories, it is also a celebration of the contribution that parents and carers make not just to their own sons or daughters, but to society as a whole.
