I’ve enjoyed my time here so much already, working at space is so much fun and I really do enjoy making everybody smile and laugh. I’ve always wanted to do care work since I was 14 and I feel very passionate about my job and working at space has really made me come out of my shell and made me a very determined person.

I have been an Occupational Therapist (OT) for many years and have a particular interest in Learning Disabilities, Autism and Asperger’s. My skills as an OT enable me to understand the importance of engagement in occupation, promoting independence and community participation. What is so great about Space Inclusive is that there are such varied activities and opportunities for people to get involved in. In my spare time I enjoy gardening on my allotment and cooking the produce from it!

I am an example of how clients at Space Inclusive can progress and do brilliant things they didn’t imagine they’d ever do when they first attended. I started attending Space Inclusive at Mansfield Woodhouse a few years ago, on Wednesday mornings. I enjoyed my time as a client and my confidence increased, especially as I helped out other clients as well. It was always my intention to move into work and, encouraged by one of the Partners, David, I started thinking about a job at somewhere like Space Inclusive perhaps! I found […]

Satty Kaur

Hello my name is Satty. I have always worked in a care setting, firstly with the elderly and then with children with behavioural difficulties. Since working at Space I have fallen in love with the job; the service users bring a smile to my face and always brighten up the day. I have found great joy in helping others, by empowering them to become more independent and gain valuable life skills. I have a degree in sociology and, although this has been very useful in my career, my main passion […]

Having completed a degree in Primary Education I have always known that my goals and aspirations in life have been to help others develop and reach their full potential. Moving away from the teaching path, I worked as a senior in a children’s residential home; working with children and young adults with behavioral difficulties. Applying for the Space Inclusive company, has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have never enjoyed a job role so much, and that’s down to the fantastic service users and colleagues […]

After graduating, I started out in photography before working in various roles including as an assistant bar manager and for a ticket service provider, where I worked at events around the country. My years doing this made me realise that I wanted to work with people in a more vocational role, so I then started working first as a residential worker and later a community support worker. After moving back to Nottingham I started volunteering at Space before being offered a position. I find working at space very rewarding and […]

I began working for Space Inclusive initially as supply staff, having very little previous experience. As cliché as it sounds, I always wanted to make a difference to individual’s lives and help them achieve their potential. I soon became Full Time staff because I loved working with such wonderful people. I can share my creative talents and encourage others to improve their confidence and social skills along the way, through the many up-cycling and design projects we do here. I also have some experience in anxiety management and over the […]

After a few years working at the Head Office at Boots, I received a letter “in 40 years when you receive your pension…” and I knew something had to change. So while my children were very young I began studying for my teaching degree and as my youngest began started in Reception Class, so did I. I loved my time teaching in Early Years, and of course it allowed me to spend the holidays with my own 2 kids as they grew up. One of the things we did together […]

As Service Administrator at Space Inclusive, I enjoy an interesting and varied role and am certainly finding it an inspiring and rewarding place to work. In my spare time I enjoy theatre, comedy, music, travel and catching up with friends.

I started working at Space Inclusive as an Apprentice. Coming straight from school, my knowledge and skills about this sector were very limited but I knew this field was where I wanted to work. Mt inspiration for wanting to work with people who have learning disabilities came from a member of my family, as it had given me the feeling of wanting to help others. Since working here each day gets better because of the guys we work with they are all unique and truly amazing they are the reason […]

I started working for Space in April 2015 after volunteering for three months. I strongly believe everyone should be included in society whatever their disabilities. Myself and my colleagues do our best to ensure all the people we look after try and reach the best of their abilities.I have a background in working in the care sector both with the elderly and people with mental health problems.

Having been to University and graduating with a BA in English, I was initially a service user in the early days of Space Inclusive! My aim was always finding employment and I was very lucky to find some with the help of David and Richard at Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service. Returning to work at Space as an administration assistant in the summer of 2015 I’m now responsible for maintaining the website and our twitter account as well as keeping our online database of clients up to date. Outside work […]

Alan Martin

Hi my name is Alan Martin, I have worked as a support worker and team leader over the last ten years.  Most of my work has involved working with people diagnosed with Autism.  I have also spent time running my own business, ‘Recreation’ in my spare time, selling musical and eclectic curiosities.  I loved running my own business but have now gone back to my studies, doing a degree in Humanistic psychotherapy at Sherwood institute.  I love cycling, football, swimming and messing around on boats.

After graduating from University with a Degree in Dance and Professional Practice, I was in search of an opportunity in which I could teach others the art of dance, whilst using that to enable a positive effect in people’s lives. That’s when I became determined I would have a career in Inclusive Dance, and working with people who have learning disabilities. I Became the Performing Arts specialist at Landmarks Specialist College, within my 3 years of teaching I gained the experience and knowledge I would need to offer my services […]

Having had no previous experience working with people with additional needs, I began by volunteering here at Space inclusive. I am a physically active person, who enjoys supporting people being in the elements – taking part in sporting activities, orienteering and generally being out and about. In addition to this, my design training allows me to incorporate my creative skills on art projects. Space Inclusive has been very rewarding-its great seeing people progress and I have learnt many valuable skills from the people we support and I hope I have […]

After raising my children I have recently re-entered the world of work. Before working at Space Inclusive I began by volunteering and over time I have realised that this sector is where I would like to be! I enjoy supporting people to become more independent and particularly like to see people make progress. I feel that my skills and enthusiasm, and the qualities of the other staff here really can inspire people to reach their potential.

With a degree in Fine Art, and a professional background in Graphic Design, I trained as an art teacher in 2004. Having had previous experience of working at Royal School for the Deaf in Manchester I knew I wanted to work in a special needs environment and once qualified went to work at Bracken Hill special school in Kirkby in Ashfield. I was at the school for nearly 6 years and was acting deputy head at the time I left to start Space Inclusive with David.

After 10 years of fashion retail experience, I decided to volunteer the skills and knowledge I learnt from my sociology degree. Volunteering my ears to a counselling hotline, I learnt what a difference just a small amount of person centred care could make. Whilst happily working for Space I have greatly enjoyed dusting off old skills such as sewing and learning new ones in screen printing to provide creative, practical activities which teach new skills in a fun person centred environment.

Having a nephew with Autism, I have had first hand experience of supporting someone with additional needs. When an opportunity arose with Space Inclusive, I jumped at the chance to get involved! I’m a very active person and enjoy taking part in, and leading sports activities to encourage healthy lifestyles. I also have a passion for cooking and like to pass on kitchen skills that people can use in their own homes.
