Tashan

Tashan arrived at Space Inclusive with no aspirations for employment. As a very able young man who travels independently, manages his own finances and has an active social life with a range of friends, we felt that working towards paid employment would enrich his life further. After a period of time working with Tashan on other things that he wanted to do (notably learning how to swim and going on residential visits), Tashan felt that he would like to give the world of work a try. After getting to the final three for a position at Marks and Spencer but ultimately being unsuccessful, Tashan had second thoughts. We were able to work with Tashan on building his confidence and through our partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals, Tashan now volunteers once a week in Linen Services. This is a demanding environment, but one that Tashan enjoys – not only as he has a special interest in washing machines but also as he has become a valued member of the team and has a great relationship with his colleagues. We are hopeful that Tashan can use this experience to take further steps towards a paid position.

Tashan has also spent a month working with Marks and Spencer and the Princes Trust on a programme designed to enhance his employability and customer service skills. Tashan has been supported on this programme by Space Inclusive and his successful completion of the course should help his employment prospects in the future.
