You may remember that last year we were kindly given, lease-free, some land at the St Anns Allotments.
We were really excited at the time and were looking forward to what it might become in the future, having already planted a lot of vegetables and waiting for them to grow.
Now we’re well into spring, it’s time to give you all an update! Whether it’s potatoes or tomatoes, leeks or rhubarb, our vegetables are growing at quite a pace, and we’re always looking out for ways to improve the allotment and make it even better.
What’s more, the clients involved in the allotment are getting loads out of it as well! Whether it’s the joy of seeing plants growing or the healthy benefits of regularly mowing the grass on the allotment, our clients say helping to look after the allotment has given them loads of health benefits – both physically and mentally.
Lucy, who is the support worker overseeing the allotment, said “It’s been a huge success.” What’s more, we’re determined to make the allotment as kind to the environment as possible; in this vein we are not using any artificial pesticides that might harm wildlife and pollinators such as bees.
