Horsing Around

Following our success at the Special Olympics Midland Games a few weeks ago, another of our Mansfield Street clients, Kirsty, has achieved Special Olympics sporting success – but at a national level this time!

With her horse, Charlie, she took part in the Equestrian events. Kirsty achieved a Gold medal for Dressage, Silver medal for her Horse Care and Knowledge and a Bronze medal for her Working Trials.

Kirsty’s head coach went out of her way to say that Kirsty was an excellent team member who offered a lot of support to a younger member of the team and that she was very helpful to all of the members of staff.

We are extremely proud of Kirsty’s achievement and we would like to thank her mum, Pauline, for letting us know of this wonderful success.

Well Done!

Game on!

A group of clients have taken part in a Special Olympics event for the Midlands in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

The Special Olympics is a movement aimed at providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual (learning) disabilities. It aims to give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing skills. It’s also aimed at creating friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Our clients, Louis, Tom, Duane and Lawrence, participated in the event. They were part of a larger team called the ‘Nottingham Knights’, representing the County at the Games.

The medals we won were gold, silver and bronze, which were won in shot put, 100 metres running, long jump and javelin.

Louis, Tom, Duane and Lawrence said they had an ‘epic’ time and saw old friends and also made new ones too. They said they didn’t mind it raining as they were in the sports hall so it was still exciting.

They were very proud to show off their medals when they returned to Space Inclusive!
