James

James has been attending Space Inclusive since November 2014. To see the immense progress he’s made you simply have to look at what aims he and his parents had when he started. His parents wanted him to be able to travel independently, especially to places he hadn’t been before. Whilst living with his Mum and Dad, they wanted him to lead as independent a life as possible, to be able to plan and cook simple meals and manage his money. When you look at his achievements, he’s gone above and […]

Shan

Shan came to Space Inclusive two years ago. She has CHARGE Syndrome, which affects her ears and eyes. As a result of this Shan has unfortunately lost her sight. However, Shan was driven to succeed despite everything and this has been helped by a great sense of humour. “Since school,” Shan says, “my dream was to work in an office”. With the help of Staff Inclusive staff, Shan has found a Work Placement – Volunteering at Nottingham Community Transport’s Sherwood depot one morning a week. Shan’s placement includes answering the […]

Lee

Before he started attending Space Inclusive in March 2015, Lee had been to a youth club a few times but he wasn’t otherwise particularly active.  However, from the very moment Lee came through the door of our Mansfield Street site, Workspace, we knew that he had lots of potential. Some of the early activities he remembers doing include map reading, cooking, working out at the gym and gardening. Lee hadn’t really been to the gym much before he came to Space Inclusive but his self-motivation and commitment paid off, as […]

Tashan

Tashan arrived at Space Inclusive with no aspirations for employment. As a very able young man who travels independently, manages his own finances and has an active social life with a range of friends, we felt that working towards paid employment would enrich his life further. After a period of time working with Tashan on other things that he wanted to do (notably learning how to swim and going on residential visits), Tashan felt that he would like to give the world of work a try. After getting to the […]

Ahsan

Initially Ahsan came to Space Inclusive for two days a week. One of the major challenges facing him was that he had very few social experiences due to being out of service for five years and he had fallen into a pattern of talking and interacting in often negative ways to his family. When he tried to talk in this way to people outside his family he often repeated questions like for like and showed little understanding of what people were saying. This made communication very difficult. Over time, with […]
